  10. The folks over at Nvidia recently announced their latest line of graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 30 series, which features the 3070, 3080, and 3090. All of the hype and fanfare surrounding a release of this magnitude can be a little disorienting, so we dug through all of the promotional material and technical specifications, so we could break down the new features Nvidia’s 30 series of cards brings to the table. GDDR6X New to the GeForce RTX 30 series of cards is GDDR6X graphics memory, which Nvidia developed in partnership with Micron. GDDR6X harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to obtain speeds of up to 1 TB/s system memory bandwidth, a huge improvement over GDDR6. GDDR6X is a product of Micron’s Ultra-Bandwidth Solutions, which aim to achieve maximum bandwidth memory for gaming and design. It is important to note that GDDR6X does not come standard on all three cards, and is only available in the Geforce RTX 3080 and 3090. Nvidia DLSS Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), uses artificial intelligence to render images with less pixels, boosting performance and rendering overall higher resolution images. RTX 30 series cards come standard with DLSS 2.0, which has come thanks to new generations of ray tracing and tensor cores, which boost ray tracing performance by 2X, and improve all of the AI based programs that the cards use. Nvidia is also introducing a DLSS Ultra Performance Mode, which is designed to boost 8k gaming and streaming performance. DX12 Ultimate Nvidia announced DirectX 12 Ultimate earlier this year, and it will now be standard on all of the 30 Series cards. According to Nvidia, their newest graphics API makes game development much more efficient by providing ready-made tools and middleware. It also supports Nvidia’s latest generation of ray tracing, as well as mesh shaders and variable rate shading. Mesh shading prevents performance bottleneck while increasing the amount of visible detail, while variable rate shading allows developers the ability to render images at different levels of detail while increasing performance. Ampere Architecture Not only have Nvidia added some great new features with the RTX 30 series of cards, they have also implemented a brand new architectured called Amphere. According to Nvidia, the Amphere Architecture relies on artificial intelligence and high performance computing (HPC) to “drive unmatched acceleration at every scale.” UPDATE: Supplies have been limited, but you can follow to be notified or purchase on Amazon here. Anyone end up snagging one during the short window they were for sale?
  11. Pretty simple, start a topic and introduce yourself. One topic per member.

  13. While at PAX I did run into a booth for Age of Mythology Extended Edition. I've been waiting years for an expansion to AOM as it's my all time favorite RTS. I didn't think it would happen after Microsoft shutdown Ensemble Studios years back. Now it appears they are creating games again under Microsoft Studios. I pre-ordered, you guys should too so we can play. http://store.steampo...com/app/266840/
  14. It looks like the vulnerability in the uLink networking library which rust is using was fixed. We could verify this on our installations. The update is not yet live on the dev or stable branch, but we've update all our official servers and facepunch updates theirs - and it looks very good so far. It will probably go "live" in the next two days. Once the fix is 100 percent a fix for the issue, news on http://playrust.com/ will appear and the update will be released by the developers.
  15. Seems all the servers are back up and exploits are being worked on according to Gary.
  16. So after some investigating it appears that the servers are receiving DDOS attacks. Not the usual, send loads of traffic at a server until it chokes and can’t take any more ddos attack. It kind of seems like someone is periodically grabbing the server list and attacking any occupied server with a bunch of empty packets. http://osgamers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Z9vzOqe.png We use a networking library called uLink. It works well for us. We can get 300 people on a single server. We’re happy. But it is not without its issues. I get the feeling that it’s not that widely used – so there’s a lot of relatively simple exploits that haven’t been found. We’ve reported issues. A lot. But always seem to receive the same responses. Basically – it’s going to be fixed in the future, in an update that is planned for the next month, that never really gets released. http://osgamers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/96MN4oM.png I’ve optimistically reported the latest issues to them, but we’re not that hopeful that we’ll get a timely fix. We’d love to take matters into our own hands but we can’t look into the issues and fix them ourselves because all their code is obfuscated. So we’re stuck. We have to either convince them to fix the exploits for us, use a different networking library.. or write our own. This is something we have to have a long discussion about internally. In the meantime we have to apologise for the ddos attacks. We know it’s not totally our fault – but at the same time it is. If you have exploits then people are going to exploit them. That’s just how the world works. We hope they get bored soon and everyone can get back to playing and we can get back to making. Until that happens we all have to suffer through this crap – which unfortunately we can do nothing but apologise for.
  17. Well, there is an update but no eta.
  18. I see a log file in the /logs folder, but it doesn't hold any information really. Does anyone know if kills and other activity are stored in any event log? I'm assuming not, as I don't see that information anywhere. If so it would be nice so we could start developing a way to track statistics on most kills, most resources etc....
  19. This is the server we play on: [uS]RustBase.com(PVP/Sleep) 108.62.145.154:28055 If you don't have the game you can purchase it here: http://store.steampo...com/app/252490/
  20. Right now Left 4 Dead 2 is free on Steam, get a copy while you can.
  21. Hey guys, some people are having getting started in the game and we don't have an official guide yet so I'll just leave this here as a placeholder in the meantime. Upon logging into rust for the first time, you will quickly learn it is very difficult to stay alive, Here are some helpful tips to help you survive your first night : How do I open my inventory? Press Tab How do I get wood? You can get wood by hitting a tree. However, it's better to find a pile of logs in the world - these will give you quite a bit more wood per hit How do I get food? You can gather meat (currently chicken breasts) by killing any animal and hitting its corpse with a melee weapon. The meat will appear in your inventory, but it will be raw How do I cook food? You need to make a camp fire (5 wood) from the crafting menu, and place it the food into it by holding use (E or mouse3) while aiming at the camp fire and selecting 'Open'. You can then put the food into the appropriate slots. Pressing E on the camp fire will also turn it on or off How do I place items? Drag the item into a slot near the bottom of the screen, this is known as your belt or 'quickslot' and will activate when you press the corresponding key How do I get stone? There are various resource nodes distributed throughout the level, they work the same as a tree, except you receive various types of stone/ores What do I do with ores? You can smelt ores into their constituent components by putting them into a furnace, much like a camp fire works Does my stuff save when I quit? Yes, your items are saved, however your body is still in the world 'sleeping' and can be killed by anyone who finds it. It is recommended to log off in hard to see places, or inside your own shelter What's a sleeping bag for? A sleeping bag is effectively a respawn point, You will spawn at your most recently placed sleeping bag when you press 'Camp Respawn' upon death. Be warned, you can only spawn at a sleeping bag once every 5 minutes. What button opens the console? F1 You can also read a community driven wiki here http://playrustwiki.com/ - It contains some useful information! Some helpful tips: Using voice chat (v) can be an effective way to determine another players mindset, or to communicate that you are friendly, be warned however many people are liars and thieves and will claim friendly under the guise of murdering you and taking all your stuff. It's best not to build your shelter close to resource areas or other high traffic areas where curious players may decide to break in and see what you have Stay away from people who are armed! If your framerate is lagging hard and you've already gone fullscreen at a lower resolution to no avail, you can turn off grass by typing 'grass.on false' into the console (F1) Post any additional questions and I will update this as often as I can, Hope that helps a bit!
  22. As some of you have noticed I've restored the root domain website and it no longer forwards on to the boards. I should have a redesign completed on it within the next few days. After that I'll start updating it frequently again. This time, I'm going to include not only clan news, but CS:GO and other game news. This will hopefully draw in more traffic and new members to OSG. It may even help us draw in people from other games that could eventually help expand in other areas of gaming. If you have any interest in writing for the main page let me know. I will keep things frequently updated, but any help is always appreciated.
  23. Just a heads up: We are currently prepping for a Datacenter Relocation in Chicago. This move will take place on Tuesday, February 26th 2013. We are expecting up to 24 hours of downtime as we pack up and move the hardware to the new location. We do expect that some services will start to come online Tuesday evening as things are racked and powered up, but please be prepared for a longer downtime, as it will simply depend on how things progress on site. A credit will be given for 1 day for everyone affected automatically. This new location will improve our overall network performance and ability to expand going forward. IPs and Data will remain intact, but there is always the possibility of a piece of hardware failing on the move, so please make a backup of your data if you are concerned. Voice server data is backed up automatically, so that will not be an issue. We will update this service alert just prior to the work being started, and once again when work is completed. UPDATE: The hardware is now in the process of being moved to its new location. We are expecting up to 24 hours of downtime as we pack up and move the hardware to the new location. We do expect that some services will start to come online Tuesday evening as things are racked and powered up, but please be prepared for a longer downtime, as it will simply depend on how things progress on site. Another update will be provided once work is complete.
